It is definitely a good idea to consult with a home security company because they are the most well informed about what type of system would provide your home with the highest level of security.

It is important to make sure that you are working with a home security company that you can trust and feel comfortable with. I think any quality home security company should back their product with multiple guarantees such as a satisfaction guarantee, a performance guarantee, an equipment and labor guarantee, an emergency service guarantee and a false alarm fine guarantee.

Thank you for the article. One thing that I would recommend is looking for a security company that can offer some sort of verification of a break in. Many security and monitoring companies only use motion detectors to protect your home and, after a motion detector has been tripped, there is no way of verifying that a break in is actually taking place beyond simply calling the home owner. If the home owner doesn’t answer, the monitoring company is really just guessing that the motion detector was tripped by a criminal and are likely to dispatch to a false alarm. If you have a system that is monitored by an audio or video system then operators are able to watch or listen in live to what is going on in your facility and determine if a break in is actually taking place or if the alarm was just tripped by mistake.

Thanks for the explanation Ryan. Home security systems can be a great addition to a home. For anyone considering a home security system, I think it’s important to do the research. Ask local police about which systems they trust. Ask monitoring centers about their valid dispatch rates and operator to account ratio. And never sign a contract with a security and/or monitoring company that doesn’t offer a full guarantee. Their written guarantee must include a performance warranty, an equipment and labor warranty, an emergency service guarantee, a false alarm fine guarantee and a six-month money back satisfaction guarantee. Any company that stands behind their product and service will offer these guarantees without exception.

Thanks for the info Ray. A couple other things I always recommend people check into when considering a monitoring company include: ask about the company’s valid dispatch rate, find out the company’s operator to account ration, and see if they offer a false alarm fine guarantee in writing. Also, check with your local law enforcement agency to learn which companies they trust … many companies have so many false alarms, police don’t even respond to their calls any more.
